About Bourbon Street

Bourbon Street is at the heart of the French Quarter, where much of the lively action takes place. It’s an absolute must when in New Orleans to walk down Bourbon Street and take it all in. If you haven’t been to New Orleans yet to see Bourbon Street for yourself, now’s your chance.

It’s one of those unique experiences that you really replicate anywhere else. Whether it’s during Mardi Gras, or just a regular old Tuesday, Bourbon Street is alive with commotion and excitement.

You might think its popularity would make it impossible to find a decently priced hotel room anywhere in the vicinity, but that’s not the case. Yes, you will pay more for a room on or near Bourbon Street, especially one with a balcony overlooking Bourbon Street, but there are plenty of great hotels to choose from, and the prices aren’t all exorbitant.

If you’re an SPG member, you’ll be happy to hear that there’s  a Four Points by Sheraton right on Bourbon Street. The location is unbeatable, and gives instant access to all the nightlife and excitement that’s going on around you. The rooms are a big small, but they are modern, comfortable, and clean.

Some of the rooms have balconies that overlook both Bourbon Street and Toulouse Street, so you can be as much a part of the action as you want. Though it’s technically located just off Bourbon Street, on Conti Street, Hotel Le Marais doesn’t lack anything in atmosphere or location. It’s just as prime a spot as the other Bourbon Street hotels.

The hotel is a bit smaller than neighboring hotels, which gives it a more boutique, personalized feeling. The common spaces and rooms all have an appealing, modern design.

The rooms are nice, decent sized, with comfortable beds. They offer complimentary wifi and breakfast, too, which is always a welcomed bonus. They have a state-of-the-art gym you can use, or on especially hot days, you can take advantage of their outdoor pool and complimentary bottled water.

While it can be a lot of fun to stay right on Bourbon Street, I can think of a number of reasons why it might be better to stay “near” Bourbon Street instead. If you’re a light sleeper, or someone who doesn’t want to deal with constant noise, staying just off Bourbon Street provides a bit of padding from the fray.

You can also escape the crowds of the main street and duck away for a bit of peace and quiet when needed. Staying just off Bourbon Street isn’t much of a compromise, really.

The Omni Royal Orleans hotel has the same southern charm as the other hotels listed above, and it’s located only a block and a half from Bourbon Street. The proximity gives you a lot of options of things to do both in the heart of the French Quarter and along the waterfront.

The rooms are nicely appointed, some have balconies. The standard room is a little on the small side, even for New Orleans, so if you need a little extra space, you’ll want to a premium room. We recently stayed at Hampton Inn Downtown French Quarter area. It was nice, reasonably priced and only two blocks from Bourbon Street. The rooms were large, quiet and comfortable. The staff was friendly and helpful. We slept good each night on comfortable beds and no noise from the outside. Two block walk straight up the street and we were right in the heart of the happenings of Bourbon Street. Certainly was an enjoyable stay.

I’m not sure which are pet friendly as we don’t travel with a pet. You’d have to check with the hotel directly.

  2. Shirll Sheppard says:

Hi Laura, I recently went to New Orleans and I found a good deal outside of the area. I figured I won’t be spending that much time in the hotel so.why spend the money. Glad I have that mindset. For me it was a good move.

    • Laura Lynch says:

That’s great Shirll. It really comes down to personal preference if you want to stay close in to be walking distance or if you don’t mind being a bit farther away.
